Conveyancing Association response to ONS property transaction data

Eddie Goldsmith, Chairman of the Conveyancing Association responds to data published by the ONS on property transactions liable for Stamp Duty:

“The ONS data is another indication that UK property transactions have bounced back following the general election, and that’s certainly what CA members are seeing right across the country. The data highlights again just how much the potential of a Mansion Tax put people off from moving, as we’ve seen a significant rise in transactions of properties worth over £500,000. The reforms to Stamp Duty at the end of last year, which resulted in a cut for most home buyers, have also undoubtedly helped to boost these figures further. “
