If we thought September was a month full of political intrigue, then we hadn’t counted on October. By the month end not only did we have a new Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, but Michael Gove was back at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Gove should certainly know the housing brief and has indeed made some progress in key areas such as leasehold reform and cladding/building safety. Nicky Heathcote’s website blog and Beth Rudolf’s article in Estate Agent Today looks at how his return might mean further action in the CA’s campaign to secure a better home moving and selling process.

The mortgage market has been incredibly turbulent since the ‘Mini Budget’ and this is impacting on the conveyancing market in terms of purchase transactions but also remortgage business as worried homeowners seek to navigate the increase in mortgage product pricing we have seen in recent weeks. A number of articles below provide the CA’s views on this and the need for better communication and a process which makes use of better digitalisation.

Finally, on a lighter note, the month finished with Beth Rudolf providing views on ‘haunted’ houses, how their value might be impacted and what consumers have to declare. You can listen to Beth on Radio 4’s Your and Yours via the link below.
