Reform across all manner of property sectors is a high priority at the moment, with…
August was notable for a number of reasons, not least the fact that the CA announced two new Affiliate members, ntitle and LMS. We’re very pleased to have them on board, they will both be taking a full part in our events/Annual Conference, and we’re looking forward to engaging with them in the months and years ahead.
What was also notable about August was the sheer Governmental focus on the property market, with a number of tax-raising measures mooted which, if they happen, will have a seismic impact on our sector and member firms. Perhaps the highest profile was the suggestion that stamp duty could be removed entirely, and replaced with a tax for sellers of homes above £500k.
That will clearly change the market significantly, and our Board members, Mark Slade and David Bridge, gave their views on what this could mean, in the story for the Law Society Gazette below. This is clearly a story which will run and run right up to the next Budget announcement which is due at the end of October/start of November.
