Conveyancing Association responds to latest house price and lending data

Responding to the latest house price and lending figures, Eddie Goldsmith, Chairman of the Conveyancing Association said:

“These figures highlight that demand is still outstripping supply across the country. We’re now seeing record price levels in many regions outside of London, despite the fact that August is usually a slow month. We would expect activity to increase further over the Autumn months as many people seek to move before the Christmas period, coupled with the Government’s new push on home ownership. I think we can now safely say that interest rates will not be going anywhere this year, which may also be fuelling a dash to move before mortgage rates are affected. Looking at the lending figures much of the growth in demand seems to be driven by the buy-to-let market and the mortgage market as a whole is seeing year-on-year growth.”
