With the Budget having been well and truly digested at the end of October, this…
For a month which can traditionally be a quiet one for the industry, nothing could be further from the truth during this December. The big event during the month was our Annual Conference and Dinner, held once again at Stamford Bridge, and the focus on the future of the conveyancing process certainly hit home the challenges ahead of us, but also the major opportunities we have as a trade body to shape our own future.
At the Conference we provided our own update on the CA’s Strategic Plan workstreams plus just prior to the closing of the Call for Evidence, we heard from the DCLG on its initial thinking and some of the feedback it had already received. Later in the month we delivered our own response and we are looking forward to working with DCLG and other stakeholders to ensure we can deliver on our proposals.
Significant progress was also made on leasehold with the Government announcing it would ban leasehold on new-build homes. Leasehold reform also made it into the Law Commission’s 13th Programme of Law Reform – a move which we were highly supportive of.
All in all December was an incredibly busy and progressive month, and gives the CA plenty of momentum to continue our work into 2018.
