Our News Coverage | July 2024
July began of course with the General Election result and the new Labour Government has not wasted time in terms of prioritising the UK housing market, specifically announcing it plans to build 370,000 new homes per year. Up from its manifesto target of 1.5 million over five years.
To say this is going to require some significant changes is a huge understatement, with planning reform top of the must-do list in order to get anywhere near this number.
We would urge you to read Nicky Heathcote’s regular website blog – link below – to see what the CA anticipates the new Government to do and how it should continue to focus on improving the home buying and selling process, and introducing measures on speeding it up and cutting down on the number of aborted transactions.
In the King’s Speech – a review of which was sent to all CA members – there were a number of Bills which will impact on the sector covering: affordable housing, renters’ reform, planning and infrastructure, first-time buyer support, and leasehold reform.
On the matter of Leasehold and Freehold Reform the CA issued its summary guide at the start of the month – details below, while we also announced further webinars which will be taking place in the coming months, one of which covers Client and Matter Risk Assessments in September.
