Our News Coverage | September 2016
September has been an important month for the Association as we gear up to our ‘Modernising Conveyancing’ conference, which will take place on the 1st December at Stamford Bridge in London. This month we issued the first details on the content of the Conference and the sessions that will be taking place – they are all designed to review the homebuying process and will feed into our ongoing work in terms of suggested changes and amendments that we believe will benefit all stakeholders.
Also, this month, we announced our continued work on our Leasehold campaign which aims to cut down on the unnecessary costs and delays that blight this part of the market. There was further good news with regard to our Cyber Safe work with the first two CA member firms meeting the necessary criteria.
At the end of the month we also issued our thoughts and comments on the forthcoming Autumn Statement which will take place in November. Given the slowdown in the housing market, we are urging the new Chancellor, Philip Hammond, to send a positive statement and announce a u-turn on the stamp duty increases for additional properties, plus the impending changes to mortgage interest tax relief claims by landlords.
Coupled with the result of the EU referendum, we believe these have had/will have a monumentally negative effect on housing market activity and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Reining back on those measures, introduced by George Osborne, would make a real difference and provide a much-needed kick-start to the housing market.
